The causes of homelessness cannot be successfully treated until the fundamental needs of the individual are met. Those fundamental needs include food, clothing and shelter. Once the individual has these basic needs met, he or she is much more likely to be able to focus on addressing why he or she became homeless.

There is not an all-inclusive program in Springfield that addresses the needs of the chronically disabled homeless, until Eden Village.

Eden Village does not want to just provide “adequate housing” for the disabled homeless, we want to establish a sense of community. To do this, a community is needed with revolutionary service and attention to needs at a fraction of the cost of traditional housing initiatives. The emphasis needs to be on dignity, love, respect, abundance, and acceptance. It needs to be based on Scripture’s meaning of “shalom.” Shalom describes a human at peace in all relationships: with God, oneself, other people, and the natural world.
